【英文 Essay】Write About Emotions and how you deal with them

Dealing with Emotions

Dealing with emotions is vital to your health. Managing our feelings is facing, accepting, and working through them. We will always have emotions, so we have to learn to deal with them. If repressed 压抑, they will find ways to come out as in depression, anxieties, panic, eating disorders to name but a few.

A lot of the time, people do not want to feel what they are feeling. They may be ashamed or guilty of these feelings, or they just do not like a certain emotion. For example, you start to like your best friend's girlfriend or boyfriend. You don't know how it happened, but you're now stuck in a predicament 困境 where you are totally infatuated 痴情 with your best friend's' girlfriend or boyfriend. Naturally, you would try to suppress 抑制 these feelings. If you ignore them, maybe they'll go away, right? WRONG! The chances are small that your feelings will just leave you; you'll most probably be feeling terrible about yourself, plus, a build-up of pent-up 被压抑的 emotions leads to stress!

Confront 面对 those emotions that you're trying to ignore. Here's what you may like to do: keep a diary in which you write down your feelings. This diary is a way for you to think about the emotions that you are undergoing. By writing down and analyzing your feelings, you become aware of the real reason why you're feeling the way you are, and the emotion becomes less painful.

How about dealing with an emotion like anger? What if you are inclined 倾向 to yell and say hurtful words to people around you? What if you throw things, punch walls, break things or hit people when you are angry? How do you control anger instead of letting it control you? You can go for a walk, work out, or play a sport, Research has shown that exercise is a great way to improve your mood and decrease negative feelings. You can also listen to music. Music has been shown to change a person's mood quickly. And if you dance, then you're exercising and that will be killing two birds with one stone!

Just like managing other feelings, you can write down your angry thoughts as a way of releasing these negative emotions. Meditate or practice deep breathing. This stress management technique can help you use self-control when you're mad. If you find yourself stewing 恼怒 about something and just can't seem to let go, it can help if you distract yourself by watching TV, read, or go to the movies.

Sometimes anger is a sign that more is going on. People who have frequent trouble with anger, who often get into fights or arguments, may need special help to keep their anger under control. Talk to your parents, a teacher, a counsellor, or another adult you trust if you notice these symptoms: you are constantly irritable 烦躁 or in a bad mood; you keep wanting to hurt yourself or other people; you tend to get into fights easily. These could be signs of depression and you shouldn't have to handle that alone.

Learning how to deal with strong emotions without losing control can be overwhelming 势不可挡的,极大的 at times 有时. However, this is part of becoming more mature. It takes some effort practice and patience, but you can get there if you want to.
